Pizza Hut commissioned our team to conduct a state-by-state survey to explore the latest pizza preferences and trends for 2024.
Polling 5,000 Americans across 50 states, our online study asked questions about their preferred style of pizza and how much they were eating.
What did the data reveal? The average American has pizza three times a month, and eats about eight slices of pizza monthly. Friday is the most popular day to order a pizza.
When comparing the difference in behaviors between states, Wisconsin was found to have the highest monthly consumption at 10 slices. Overall, North Dakota, New York, Minnesota and Wisconsin ordered the most pizza every month.
New York-style pizza was voted the most popular pizza style, and pepperoni the most frequently ordered topping. And the controversial pineapple topping? Almost half (44%) said they’d be willing to try it on pizza.
Our team produced an infographic to illustrate the key results, and a ‘heat map’ depicting the favorite pizza styles. Pizza Hut created a Trends Report and released the findings to the media. Their campaign led to some great pick up by consumer media and news outlets, including USA Today, Food & Wine, and Food Network Magazine, seen here.
