Millions of Americans would hold a grudge against someone for not coming to their birthday party — and their Zodiac sign may matter.
That’s data from a new survey, which found that 22% of Americans take their birthday “extremely seriously” and want to feel extra special on their special day.
And over one in ten (12%) would actively hold it against someone for not coming out to celebrate with them.
The poll of 2,000 U.S. adults, conducted by Talker Research, found that Gen Z Americans are by far the most passionate about their special day, with 35% reporting they take it extremely seriously.
Millennials were close behind, with 34% reporting the same. But older Americans were far less precious: Only 16% of baby boomers put the same level of care into their birthdays.
The respondents were also split by their Zodiac sign in order to determine which sign’s birthday party you should absolutely not skip.
Sagittariuses were the most likely to take their birthday “extremely seriously” (29%), with Leos (25%) and Libras (24%) not far behind.
Virgos were the most likely to not care about their birthday at all (19%).
One in five Americans (20%) report throwing a birthday bash annually, with 21% saying they typically only get people together for the big milestone birthdays.
People largely prefer small, intimate gatherings at home for their celebrations (44%) compared to big blowouts in public (e.g. dinner, karaoke, etc.), while 29% prefer to celebrate privately with their partner.
Twenty-seven percent of those polled also agreed it’s proper etiquette to attend someone’s birthday bash if they went to yours.
And should someone have to pay for drinks on their birthday? A third of respondents strongly disagree that anyone should pay for their drinks and food when it’s their special day, but 27% do expect others to shell out on their behalf.
